How to Decorate a Modern- Style Kitchen

We all know that kitchens that have farmhouse style get a lot of the attention these days but the requests for more modern , clean-lined kitchens are pouring in as well!

Modern kitchens have a more sleek, simple appearance without a lot of fuss and over decoration.  Emphasis is placed on the materials and form more than anything else.  When decorating your modern- style kitchen, take that into consideration so the design looks cohesive and your accessory choices don’t compete with the rest of the kitchen.

Here are a few tips on how to decorate a modern-style kitchen—

Sleek and Shiny

It’s not necessarily an accessory, but the cabinet hardware is definitely a main element in a modern kitchen and will complete the design. The right hardware must be selected otherwise the style may not come together like one would hope.

Cabinet hardware that is linear and has a lack of detail is the perfect choice for a modern kitchen. Bar style pulls are commonly used in this style of kitchen.  Polished chrome and polished nickel finishes add a little shine to the space.  It is also recommended to select hardware that is longer and spans the distance of the cabinet face. Modern kitchens always have a linear quality and having longer pulls will emphasize the perpendicular lines of the cabinetry.

Lighting is Key

Lighting is where you can have some fun in the kitchen design and really let the modern style shine! There are so many different choices when it comes to lighting and we always love to see the fixtures our customers select.  There are fixtures that are small and sleek, others that are large in scale and really make a statement in the space, the choice is really up to you. It is still important to keep in mind that the fixture shouldn’t have a lot of detail and ornamentation.

Modern kitchens are all black and white. It adds so much interest by adding a pop of color. You can add color by painting an accent wall, a colorful bowl to hold fruit, or even some of your appliances.

Bring Nature In

Modern kitchens always have a natural, organic element to them. It could be in adding a few rich wood cutting boards along the countertop to add warmth to the kitchen, or adding a tall, simple floral centerpiece in the middle of the kitchen island. Both are simple ways to bring the outside into the space.
